State of affairs, March 2018.

After months of planning and 5 weeks on island, we are happy to announce that Villa Capiz is coming back, better than ever. The property has been an ongoing project of the Visallis for over 30 years, and now, after the island-wide destruction by Hurricane Irma on St John, (September 6, 2017), rebuilding efforts at Villa Capiz and island-wide, are seriously underway. The pool again looks like the photo on this page, and the upstairs verandah is twice as big under roof. More photos to come. We actually had 8 Capiz doors (originally custom built in the Phillipines), dismantled, brought to New Jersey, rebuilt, shipped back to St John, and reinstalled. The best part of the disaster is the community of St John. The locals are a tough and resilient bunch, putting their hearts and souls into helping each other rebuild and get their lives back. Our property managers, Peter and Gail, have been so helpful to us, even as they work to rebuild their own home. Already St John is lush and green again, but the trees are shorter and vegetation is still filling in. The water and beaches are spectacular, but there is less shade on most beaches due to felled trees. Underwater, there seems to be little change, still beautiful. Villa Capiz remains perched atop Gift Hill with its gorgeous views of Great Cruz Bay, Chocolate Hole, St. Thomas and surrounding islands. Breathtaking sunsets and magical rainbows are once again viewed from the spacious decks.

Fabulous restaurants and bars are only a hop, skip, and a jump. Most of the dining and shopping venues in Cruz Bay are up and running. Fishing trips, day sails, snorkeling, diving and hiking are activities available to you every day.

Reservations for Villa Capiz can now be made beginning November 1, 2018, however, we hope to be able to offer the property for vacationers before that date. If you are interested in dates over the summer, please email us at and we will keep you updated.
